<p>"In order to identify the commonalities and differences between the two notions we note:</p>
<p>• Both DE and SoS are compositions of simpler systems.</p>
<p>• Both DE and SoS are embedded in an environment of a larger scale.</p>
<p>• The constituent systems in DE do not have their independent goal, they are not autonomous and their behavior is subject to the rules of the interconnection topology.</p>
<p>• The interconnection rule in DE is expressed as a graph topology.</p>
<p>• The constituent systems in SoS may have their own goals and they are autonomous, semi-autonomous, or organized as autonomous groupings of composite systems.</p>
<p>• There may be a connection rule expressed as a graph topology for the information structures of the constituent systems in a SoS.</p>
<p>• The SoS is linked to an environment where every constituent system enters as an agent with their individual Operational Set, Goals." p. 21</p>
